AIS White Paper: Prescription of training load in relation to loading and unloading phases of training

The Australian Institute of Sport has put together a brilliant piece on managing loads following periods of relative detraining. This gives some great insight into how havingĀ breaks from training – whether forced or chosen – can have some significant impact on your training tolerance.
This article is meant for National Sporting Organisations and State Institutes to assist in the prevention of training error injuries. However, all runners can use it to gather insight into how to keep your injury risk down by recalibrating your training load after missing a period of time. Key times include: end of season, Christmas/New Year breaks, injury, illness and travel.
Enjoy the read and have a think about how long you normally take to return to ‘normal training’ following a break.
